Five years ago there were a handful of SaaS companies and today there are over 1000. I met dozens of these companies at HostingCon this year. They are growing quickly and consuming resources from PaaS firms like Amazon and Softlayer at a rapid pace. SaaS is going to be adopted by SMB much faster than the enterprise so Lawson doesn’t have to fret too much. Microsoft has been telling anyone who is willing to listen about their software+services strategy (aka SaaS).
Cloud computing on the other hand = hype machine in overdrive. We are 5-10 years away from any true cloud computing architecture. The challenge is that it will require all new software. Thanks for the great podcast guys!
