Minnov8 Gang 373 – Smooth, Sexy & Social

Our own Phil Wilson has a profile story by Katharine Grayson in this past week’s Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Titled Face Time: BuzzFeed General Manager Phil Wilson, the story requires a subscription to MSPBJ, but Phil gives an overview of what’s in it and it’s a nice introductory piece of Phil in MSPBJ’s “Face Time” series.

Tim and I were a bit disappointed after seeing MSPBJ photographer Nancy Kuehn‘s photo for the story. We both thought that Katharine didn’t title it correctly and it should have been: Face Time: BuzzFeed GM Phil Wilson is Smooth, Sexy & Social. Perhaps a followup story will probe Phil’s smooth, sexy, social persona.

Hosts: Steve Borsch, Tim Elliott and Phil Wilson

Hi, guys – great episode! Thanks for the shout-out about my new web site. I’ve been thinking about that “wave” theme for a long time, and finally had a little time to go for it. Thanks, Steve, for helping me build it out. Way overdue. Hey, I build a new web site every 20 years whether I need it or not! That darn mobile-responsive thing finally made me do it… 🙂

Re: the StarTrib Business opinion piece on how our Fortune 500s need to start buying from our startups – I salute Chris Smith, CEO of Kipsu, for calling out the local biggies! This is not a problem in the Valley and in other tech centers – why is it here? Our Minnesota BigCos talk a lot about “innovation,” but they do remarkably little to support our startup community.

That is changing somewhat, with efforts like what we’re doing – successfully – with the MinneAnalytics community (now 9000+ strong!)… that is, at least mixing up the Fortune 500 and startup folks more. And with private incubators and accelerators like TreeHouse Health (and thank you, Steve, for mentioning my former client). By the way, watch for more to come on this front.

    cheers,
    Graeme
