Minnov8 Gang 393 – Advisor to President Trump

February 11, 2017 By Steve Borsch

Tim and Steve could only imagine what it would be like if Phil Wilson was an advisor to Donald Trump. Would we all have healthcare? Would he build a wall around Lakeville where Tim lives? We can only speculate, but let’s not, and instead go on and talk about technology!

Hosts: Steve Borsch, Tim Elliott and Phil Wilson

September 23, 2016 By Steve Borsch

down-the-well-mainPhil Wilson, aka “Mr. Acoustics“, comes to us from the Minneapolis BuzzFeed office conference room. As a former radio DJ, Phil knows a thing or two about good acoustics, microphones, and sounding your best. THAT is why it’s so fun to tease him about his “down the well” acoustics this week!  😉

Minnov8 Gang 365 – Tech is Accelerating

July 2, 2016 By Steve Borsch

accl-change-mainWe’ve mentioned before how tech is accelerating and the “summer slowdown” we used to know (and how we’d struggle to find stuff to talk about in the summers of 2008 – 2010) has totally and completely abated. Technology innovation is moving at an ever-faster speed and is also compressing the time for these new innovations to be released. So hold on as we explore some topics that you will undoubtedly find interesting and compelling.

Minnov8 Gang 329 – #IAmMNTech

September 12, 2015 By Steve Borsch

The former has unique perspectives on the tech stories covered and the latter has an exciting new Minnesota-tech-centric documentary called DocuMNtary, an effort which has this Kickstarter to ensure it gets made. Go there, watch the trailer, and support it!

A new hashtag has also emerged, #IamMNTech, which is the perfect way to identify Minnesota’s accelerating technology ecosystem and promote anything tech-centric here in the #North. Use it going forward.

Minnov8 Gang 325 – The Man In the Arena

August 15, 2015 By Steve Borsch

In 1910, former president Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt (TR), gave an impassioned speech (PDF) at the Sorbonne in Paris. It included a paragraph that has been dubbed “The Man in the Arena,” a phrase which has become an apt metaphor for anyone in a situation that requires courage, skill or tenacity…vs. someone sitting in the stands as a spectator watching.

The sort of spectators who observe startups, entrepreneurs, (or any innovator or disruptor) and are, as TR so aptly put it, those “cold and timid souls” who routinely naysay, give criticism and believe they could have done better.

At the beginning of the show we talk about “Girl Develop It” and women in coding, so this speech snippet by Roosevelt could be looked at as him being somewhat of a misogynist (for his repeated emphasis on “man”). It turns out Roosevelt was an outspoken advocate of women’s suffrage in the early part of the last century. A position certainly not in the mainstream at the time amongst men.

Minnov8 Gang 321 – Prime Saves a Dime

July 18, 2015 By Steve Borsch

prime-dime-mainAmazon touted the great deals available during Amazon Prime Day this past week and they had good sales but not everyone thought so. Just before the show Phil stuck this funny Buzzfeed article about Amazon’s Prime Day fail into this week’s show notes and we found ourselves laughing out loud at some of the tweets they compiled.

The first tweet posted in the article is why the title of today’s podcast, and is at the core of why so many people didn’t find the deals all that great during Prime Day (see the embedded tweet at the bottom of this post).

Even though spam is “officially” down (Email Spam Rates Dip Below 50 Percent), many people I talk to seem to agree with my experience: Spam has exploded in the last year—especially quality spam that slips through spam filters—and this week’s tip is about creating, and using, email aliases to keep spammers at bay.

Minnov8 Gang 317 – In Jammies by the Lake

June 13, 2015 By Steve Borsch

jammies_mainWe always tease Graeme about podcasting from his cabin up north, wearing his up at the lake warm jammie pants (though in his defense, they likely fall more into the lounge wear category). Please note that none of us know if Graeme actually owns a onesie jammie set, with little ducks and bunnies on them, like you see in the photo.

Teasing aside, we are grateful Graeme makes the effort to climb into his acoustically perfect car, connect to his in-cabin Wifi, and c0-host the show!
