Minnov8 Gang 283 – Open Mouth, Insert Foot

October 11, 2014 By Steve Borsch

Like the women at the Grace Hopper Conference this week, the Gang was stunned that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said to women in attendance that they should ‘trust karma’ so they could expect pay equity (see Re/Code’s: Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Microsoft CEO Tells Women Techies to Trust “Karma” on Pay Inequity).

To say that there was negative blowback on Nadella was an understatement. In an email to Microsoft employees the next day, Nadella said that he answered “that question completely wrong.” Um…yep.

Minnov8 Gang 253 – Controlling the Pipe

February 15, 2014 By Steve Borsch

controlling-the-pipe-mainThe biggest story of the past week surrounds Comcast/Xfinity and their merger with Time Warner Cable. Will this place the combined company in a position to wield unprecedented control over the internet pipe in to our homes and businesses?

The combined company will enjoy 30 million households (26% of the U.S. 115+ million households) which may present a significant challenge for companies like Netflix, Hulu and Apple to compete…or maybe not. Perhaps Congress and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will get involved…but maybe not.

Minnov8 Gang 252 – DON’T PANIC!

February 8, 2014 By Steve Borsch

dont-panic-mainDon’t panic! Comcast’s Xfinity is setting up home Wifi routers to let the public use your data connection but everything will be OK. In addition, NBC is scaring any-and-all Sochi Olympics attendees to think that, if they even turn on their smartphone or computer and connect to Wifi, they will be instantly hacked.
